Having more by having less- A minimalist Lifestyle

We are never contented with what we have, this is human nature. We waste our youth, our time and our health just to earn more money to buy more material things. And no matter how much or how many we buy, we are never satisfied. Our cup remains half empty because we allow it to be.

There are times when having less means having more, we just have to look beyond that wall and find deeper meaning in each event in our lives. Having less doesn’t mean being poor, more often the poor are among the richest in our world.

We go to work early and stay past our scheduled work hours to add more overtime pay in our salary. Just because of a simple goal of buying a new gadget, the most talked about cell phone or the largest flat screen TV perfect for your living room. But look at it this way… if you don’t have a cell phone you’ll take your time to write your friend a letter. That letter will be kept in a box to be treasured for a lifetime unlike a phone call or a text message which can easily be deleted. Without the television, you’ll have more time in your hands to go out and meet new friends instead of sitting in your couch all day. Spend time with your loved ones remember… they won’t be around forever.

You feel depressed because you can’t afford to buy that new Prada dress or that bag you absolutely adored. What about your weekly spa and hair maintenance, do you really need it? Maybe it’s not meant for you… your hard earned money deserves to be spent in more sensible things that you’ll surely enjoy for a lifetime, not into designer stuffs that will hide at the back of your closet when the new fad arrives.

You envy those who can afford Caribbean cruises or African safari vacations but rest assured that you will enjoy more when you spend quality time with your loved ones. Go back to your childhood home and reminisce the moments when you were still young. Teach your kids how life used to be, before technology took over. Let them climb trees, swim in rivers and pick fresh eggs… it is seldom or rare that they will experience them. They might never again. Ask your mom to cook your favorite pie for dessert, or those amazing pancakes for breakfast and after enjoying all this simple pleasures… take your time to sit with them and enjoy a little conversation. Watch them play with your kids; remember when they used to play with you. And don’t forget to capture these moments and frame them in your mind. Preserve the smiles of your family and record their laughter, this are priceless treasures that no one can ever replicate.

Living a simple life can be has its own gift that money can never buy. So stay happy, be healthy and cherish every moment you spend with your family.
