As you may have seen, I have posted a couple of really good videos on respirators and respirator standards by OSHA. I thought that I would follow up on that with something very important: the need for training.
Consider this example:
Full-face respirators (N-100 or greater) are a common type of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used for microbial remediators at restoration companies. While I worked at these types of companies we would don these things for everything from flood and sewage back-ups, mold remediation, and 'category 3' water damages. While the respirators did help reduce exposure to airborne hazards associated with dust (and other debris) generated-contamination during remediation, they would not fully protect the individual without other control measures in place, such as proper training (to use the PPE and do the remediation practices) and mechanical resources for ventilation control and 'air scrubbing'.
