Thoughts from Eric Worre of NetworkMarketingPro.com (NetworkMarketingPro.com is 100% free)
If we want success, we have two choices...1) follow a leader or, 2) become a leader.
We are all leaders, and we are all followers. In some phases of life we are leaders, in some phases of our life we are followers.
For example, we are all 'leaders' over our own household. If we have a job, we are 'followers' of our CEO.
However in network marketing and/or online business we must make a choice. We must either follow a leader, or we must become a leader. There is nothing in between, we cannot simply drift to the top of the mountain.
There's nothing wrong with following a leader, however we must choose that leader wisely. We must know where we want to go, and we must be certain that leader is taking us to that place.
Following a leader does not mean simply tagging along. We must be willing to carry our own weight. We must learn, and be willing to sponsor new people into our business. A good leader will have a simple plan we can follow. We must commit to following that plan.
We must be willing to step out of our comfort zone and commit ourselves to the training required to follow the plan. For example, anybody can learn to sell something, with a little training. Anybody can learn to recruit somebody, with a little training.
Now...if you want massive success, you need to become a leader.
Eric Worre defines leadership as...the ability to get somebody to do something they would not have ordinarily done if that leader had not been there.
He then outlines the seven characteristics leaders must learn and develop. Yes, leadership can be learned.
1) Philosophy – A leader must develop a 'sincere' desire to help other people get where they want to go. When people feel this from a leader, they will follow that leader through thick and thin. If the leader's desire is artificial, people will not follow.
2) Competence – A leader must develop the skills required to do the business successfully. In other words, a leader must be able to do what he/she asks of the group members.
3) Image – It matters how a leader looks and sounds. Consistency of attitude matters. A leader can not have a 'bad day'. A leader can not be a 'normal' person. The group needs a certain type of leader, and that is who you need to become.
4) Vision – A vision says, here is where we are going. A vision says, here's why it's important to you that we get there. A vision says, here is why it's important for us to get there together.
(Every leader throughout history has had the same vision...there is a 'Promised Land' and we can get there together.)
5) Game Plan – A leader says, we're going to take Step 1, then we'll take Step 2, then we'll take Step 3, (and so on)...Step 10 takes into the 'Promised Land'.
6) Intensity – Intensity kills negativity, it kills distractions, it kills apathy. It inspires people to do what they would not have done without the leader.
7) Distractions – Distractions are poison to organizations. Leaders must destroy distractions the instant they appear in the group. Leaders must be 'unreasonable' when dealing with distractions, no exceptions. Leaders must be willing to be uncomfortable in order to maintain continuity within the group.
So, if you want success in your business, you have only two choices, follow a leader, or become a leader.
