Success might be fast for some people and slow for others. The amount of time that some put in to reach their dreams might trump the amount of time that others fit into their schedule. The most important thing that they have in common is a "Dream", and as long as they all keep moving forward toward their dreams, that dream will eventually become a reality. As in all people, each dream, and each journey toward that dream is unique. Since my dream is different from the next guy, my route and what works for me, will not work for the next guy or girl, and his or her route won't lead me to my dreams. So the next time you look at someone else who seams to have achieved more, just remember, his or her dream is not the same as your dream, so keep your eyes on your dream, and keep on your route. Follow your journey through to the end.
I witnessed a perfect example of this one time in Annapolis Maryland. My wife and I were having a wonderful dinner along the harbor when a fairly nice sized mini yacht pulled along side of us and docked. A middle aged man jumped out of the boat and instantly two ladies walked up to him as if he had a magnet on him. In fact, he did have a large magnet sitting in the water. I thought, "Wow, that guy must have it together, look at that boat." The three of them sat down right beside my wife and I, and I soon found out that this guy didn't have it together at all. Yeah sure, he had enough money to buy a boat and live comfortably, but as he spoke more, I started feeling bad for the guy. Here sat a very successful man in the business world, but a complete failure in his personal life. He was miserable. And here I was having a wonderful dinner with the most gorgeous and loving girl who is now my wife. His journey was not my journey, nor did I want it to be. I found out that night that my journey was working just fine for me.
It is completely acceptable to find someone that you would like to mentor you, or someone that is successful in a certain business that you are interested in, and model what they do. It is great to have someone to guide you to success, but always remember, do not let yourself get caught up comparing yourself to him or her or anyone else. Just take what they share with you, and continue on your path. Keep moving forward, and your dream will continue to move closer.
