Cat Herding...it's chaos

EDS may now be defunct (HP decided in 2008 that owning the second largest IT Services company was a good move), but it had a moment of great glory in 2000 with its Superbowl ad.
There is great imagination in being able to link “Cat Herding” with building technology services for customers, but hey it is a great ad. If you have never seen it – spend a minute of your time seeing why this was such agreat ad.

While the ad talks about bringing technology, ideas, etc together I find that there is parallels with the online marketing industry.
The cats represent the multitude of marketers running around looking for the next "big thing" or jumping from opportunity to opportunity looking for the immediate "profits and riches for $5".
The "herders" represent the leaders within opportunities who work hard to keep their teams focussed on the goal and vision. Teaching, encouraging, directing the "cats" in the right direction.
It's not an easy job to do, but the level of experience of a "herder" means that success is more likely - and as a result the "cats" will remain with in the group.
But let's not get too philosophical and just enjoy the ad for what it is - a great way to market your services.
