Always Moving Forward

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” Calvin Coolidge

Starting a new business venture can be very challenging and somewhat intimidating for any entrepreneur. I’ve always believed that to be successful in life or the business world, you must possess a certain “internal fortitude” or have great “mental stamina”. The internal fortitude I’m talking about refers to how much of your heart and soul is in your life, business, project, job, sport, etc. The mental stamina is that state when you feel like giving up and can’t go further, better known as your I.Q. (I Quit) level.

One of my philosophies about life and business is to “always move forward” regardless of what’s going on around me: good, bad, or indifferent. You can have the best college education and degrees on the wall, but if your attitude sucks, you won’t go far. I’ve learned many years ago that building a successful enterprise will require me to “exercise my mind” to handle the rigors of running a business. Just like an athlete trains their body to be at their best for competition, a business person must continually commit to personal development and continuous education to stay atop of their industry.

This will be my 36th year as an independent business owner and been blessed to have many great experiences along the way. There were some downfalls and objections that I had to deal with, but those trials have made me a much stronger person and better leader in my company and community. It mentally takes a lot to stay in business for so long, but if your priorities are in order, you can overcome anything. It starts with making a decision to become better than you are today at whatever you chose to achieve in life. Once you get that embedded in your brain and heart, the rest is easy. So don’t dwell in the past. Always Move Forward!
