Business Building 101: The POWER Of REFERRALS

I've been in business since 1979 in different ventures ranging from running my own barber shop to various marketing opppotunities and have been blessed to meet a lot of great people along the way. Many of them eventually became clients of mine and some didn't. I learned a long time ago that in order to stay in business, you have to do have great customer relations with your potential clients and/or business partners. When you are courteous and polite to them, it's the first step in building a respectful and growing business relationship. It's like sharing a good book, your favorite movie, or where you bought your car. Referrals are the life-line for my business and it always leads to better customers who will "stick-and-stay" with me for a long time.



Referrals make up 80% of my business and because of that, I NEVER make cold calls regardless of it's for recruiting new partners or sharing my services with prospects. The people I've interacted with over the years supply me with enough leads by asking each one a very simple question: "Who do YOU know......?" That question has kept me in business for well over 35-years. If I'm sharing my services and benefits with someone and they're interested, for example, after the purchase, I'll ask, "John, who do YOU know that may BENEFIT from my services just LIKE you?" or if I'm recruiting, I may say, "Mary, who do YOU know that is tired of not having control of their time and finances?"



Because I've established a long-term relationship with people, they feel comfortable in referring prospects to me because they know I'll take great care of them on their behalf. Here's a BIG CLUE: No one will do business with you if they don't LIKE, RESPECT, or TRUST YOU! Take time to develop relationships before you try to jam your business opportunities or services doen someone's throat. You'll be suprised as to how others will take you more seriously if you show that you care about them. Their credibility is on the line so if someone's going to give you their endorsement, you better make sure that you provide the BEST customer service experience possible. It'll be the difference in your financial success or business failure!
