What is an ESCO? An Energy Service Company! In other words, the company the provides the SUPPLY part of your electricity and natural gas!
Many people feel more safe and secure in sticking with the company they currently have - which is often the incumbent provider. In other words, the same company that delivers their electricity and natural gas. However, these people may be missing out on some great savings and today, who doesn't need savings?
I have heard some horror stories of people that have switched from their incumbent provider to another ESCO and got cheaper service for a couple of months and then it went up! Way up! So it's understandable that people are sometimes deterred from trying something else and it's unfortunate that some ESCO's give energy deregulation a bad name. They are NOT all the same! It's good to do some research on ESCO's before choosing one; especially if you will be signing a contract and/or locking into a fixed price.
Most all deregulated states have a website where you can go to see the differences in price between competitors, as well as how long the contract terms are, if any; and if there are any fees to cancel the service early.
