When Push Comes To Shove

How many of us have been in a situation when the phrase push comes to shove has been referenced for finding a solution to something? I have been applying this phrase wrong for most of my life. If you are like me I do not like it when someone or something has caused the unexpected to happen in my life and find myself frustrated by the outcome.

Most of the time I would react right away using my defensive instincts to either attack or to defend myself from further onslaught. My reasoning was to make sure that I was able to combat what ever the other party did to cause me pain. Not taking into account what the other individual was really trying to convey but only seeing how this was going to interrupt my plans for the day.

While this type of behavior would only feed my EGO and give me some satisfaction of proving that I was right, it never seemed to be the answer that would resolve the action or words spoken that put me into this negative competitive spirit. Realizing later that if I had ask for more clarification from this individual my understanding of this incident most likely could have changed the outcome.

For many years this was how I would react to situations that I thought I should be in control of. When in reality I understand now that almost everything around me is out of my control. I now have much more compassion and patience when my plans get derailed due to another individuals actions. I am working towards accepting that I need to expect the unexpected and stop and realize that most individuals are not purposely trying to mess with me. I also understand there are times when others probably think that I was the cause for there plans being changed.

Being a control freak can be very difficult at times, when I know that my way is the right way, at least in my mind. Now when push comes to shove I still do the pushing and shoving except now I am pushing and shoving how I used to react out of the way. I still slip up at times and revert back to the old ways, however there are more times now I stop myself before I cause any damage.

Wow you are going to love this it`s hilarious I was just finishing up this article and before I was going to post it I decided to go get something to eat. I really wasn`t in the mood to cook so I thought I would just have some English muffins and cereal simple enough. I head to the kitchen and open up the cupboard that we keep bread, rice, spaghetti and other miscellaneous foods and all of a sudden the next thing I am doing is playing pick up sticks. Someone put a package of spaghetti back in the cupboard that was open and you can guess what happened next.

What do you think my first reaction was? Well let`s just say that I quickly reflected back to this article and started laughing. I then thought this has to be the reason why I didn`t post this article before I went to the kitchen.

Now my question is are you pushing and shoving your business at your prospective clients or are you feeding them positive information. The kind of information that will help them make an intelligent decision not some spammy hyped up advertisement that you are bombarding them with.
