Why The Writer Is A Writer

As much as I love to write about all different kinds of topics I wanted to take a break from it today or at least that was my original plan. Saturday is always a good day to do projects around the house and I had several that were on the waiting list and one that developed last night.

There has been a leak in the bathroom sink for quite some time, nothing serious something I was going to get to later. Well I just happened to check it last night and I got what I deserved a nice little mess under the sink. It was too late to do anything about it last night so I would have to wait and go to the hardware store when they open up at eight in the morning.

With both my wife and daughter both still sleeping I start taking apart the plumbing under the sink and pull off the p trap where the water was leaking from. I remembered that I had one out in the shop but have no washers for it. Off to Ace Hardware to get the washers and back in ten minutes. Did I say I hate working with plumbing issues, the p trap is the wrong size. Back to ACE Hardware to return the washers and get the right size p trap.

I am getting excited now that all that I have to do is replace the p trap. Would you believe that the drain elbow pipe has a crack in it also. I can`t even get a wrench in there to try and loosen it up to take off. This is why the writer is a writer. I now have to pull the sink out so I can get at it with a wrench. So much for a 30 minute job.

It is not even budging and the only thing to do is unscrew the drain outlet with it attached. Another trip to ACE Hardware to get all new pipe with high hope that this will do the job. Back at the house and all parts are back in place, now all I have to do turn on the water and guess what it is leaking at the top of the cold water line now. Did I mention I hate working on plumbing issues.

OK I have just about had enough but I will give it one more try. Back to ACE Hardware for the fourth time they like seeing me. I went and bought a new faucet and a new line for the cold water side. This has got to be the answer or I am going to throw the sink out in the back yard. This is why the writer is a writer.

After five hours a stiff neck and stiff back I am getting real frustrated I mean way past real frustrated. I have the sink upside down putting on the faucet and screw on the cold water line which is so much easier than trying to do that from underneath. OK all put back together and I turn on the water and I can`t believe it the left side hot water line at the top is now leaking.

So how is your day going? I am now at the point where I am wondering if this is a dream or is it one of those character building days. I try for about 15 minutes to tighten the top of the hot water line with no success, there just isn`t enough room to get any leverage on it. The only thing left to do is take it all apart and pull the sink out.

Alright I unscrew both line at the bottom and undo all the rest of the pipes and pull the sink out and flip it over. The hot water line is on crooked no wonder it was leaking. Now I am getting excited again all I have to do is put it all back together turn on the water right, not again it is now leaking from the tailpipe. It became loose most likely from all the moving around. This will be easy to tighten I can reach this with no problem.

After all this I now have a little leaking out from where the p trap joins the pipe that goes into the wall pipe. This is going to wait until tomorrow, I probably jarred it loose or not enough plumbers tape on it. I have had enough of this for today. I did eventually complete some of the other projects I had scheduled for today. Did I mention I hate working on plumbing issues.

This is why the writer is a writer.
