"How can I give today?" This is a question asked by many at the beginning of the day. One way is to give words of encouragement and appreciation. A compliment is such a simple act, but with last effects. It's like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day! Be extravagant is your words of praise, seeing a glimpse of the true value of another person.
When we bless others, we are, in turn, blessed. To the getter, there’s never enough. Something is always missing. A feeling is present that they have to get more. To the grateful giver, there is always enough. The funny thing, though, is that it is the givers that get. They are the ones who receive bountifully. They selflessly give of themselves & in return, receive more than they give. Henry Ford said, “The man who will use his skill and constructive imagination to see how much he can give for a dollar, instead of how little he can give for a dollar, is bound to succeed.”
There was a time when my wife & I, due to unforeseen financial hardship, found it nearly impossible to buy food, to say nothing of paying our bills. In prayer, I was asked, “what do you have in your house” (II Kings 4:2 The Message). My first thought was, “not much.” However, I realized that the answer had to be much deeper. I thought of many of the good qualities I expressed & decided to give even more to a wider sphere of people & to a greater degree. The result was that all our needs were met during those years.
Today, I want to promote an insightful, poignant book by a wonderfully joyous and grateful man, Bob Burg. The book is The Go-Giver, co-authored with John David Mann. The Go-Giver is the story of a young ambitious man named Joe who strives to get ahead of the pack. Joe is a real go-getter. At times, though, he feels like the harder he works & more he hustles, the more his dreams seem to elude him. On the last day of a very bad quarter, desperate to make a big sale, he seeks advice from the mysterious Pindar, a legendary consultant referred to by many simply as the Chairman.
Within a week’s time, Pindar introduces Joe to a series of successful “go-givers”: a restaurateur, a CEO, a financial advisor, a real estate broker & “The Connector,” who brought them all together. Pindar’s friends share with Joe the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success & instruct him how to open himself up to the power of giving.
Joe learns that changing his attitudes in his personal & business life from getting to giving, putting the interests of others before his own & continually adding value to their lives, leads to unexpected returns in the end.
Burg and Mann are fantastic storytellers, providing moments of wit, mixed with grace, that warms the heart. It gives new meaning to the saying, “give and you shall receive.”

 | | Hey! A BIG thank you to Dean, Lynda, Deborah, and Lisa (a fellow Ohioan)! Do we feel we have nothing to be grateful for, little to show for our efforts? Then let's give more! How many people can we bless today? A dozen? Hundreds? Thousands? Why put limits on who, how much or how many individuals we will help or bless this day? There is no reason. Give, and give more and then you'll find plenty to be grateful for. Here's to your success! |

| | | | | Excellent blog...it made my day! Didn't know there were 5 Laws of Stratospheric Success so will need to read the book. Thanks so much for sharing |
| | | | | I have been struggling with people taking that kind spirit of giving as a weakness and constantly being taken advantage of. Your blog was so refreshing and it encourages me not to give up because to be any other way would truly be against my nature so I must stick it out and love people in spite of how they treat me. Thanks for writing this very inspirational blog. |
| | | | | Excellent blog article Tim - Congratulations for reminding us about what is really important in our life. Jeff Bridges in "Starman" makes a wonderful statement that "humans are at their best when things are at their worst". Your thoughts shared with us proves once again that Jeff's words are right. Thank you Tim for your great blog and for sharing with us your experiences and thoughts! |
