When we compromise we each have to give a little to get a little, but does it make it right? According to the definition from Wikipedia, to compromise is to make a deal between different parties where each party gives up part of their demand. In arguments, compromise is a concept of finding agreement through communication, through a mutual acceptance of terms—often involving variations from an original goal or desire.
When we don’t stand for what we believe then we fall for just about everything else and sometimes we don’t even realize it until it is too late. According to Ralph Waldo Emerson, “For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else.” Life is full of compromises but when we do, are we just accepting the norm and thinking that eventually it will change.
So what brings me to my original point of no compromise is the fact that we must stand for what we believe or believe in what we stand for. Compromise will settle it for now but eventually we are going ‘to lose something that was more important than the compromise. Another point about compromise is that it always leads you to a point of no return. “Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.
The Bible says, “follow peace with all men and holiness without which no one shall see the Lord, these are the words that I live by and truly they are the only words to keep me going. I cannot compromise, because God does not want me to compromise; but I have to speak the word and let it fall where it may. God is not calling any of us to compromise, but to stand on his truth. If we stand on this truth then compromise will not be necessary. So remember, no compromise!!

 | | | | | | Thanks for sharing your thoughts on compromise Elizabeth, every time we compromise we are putting ourselves in a position one side or the other of our position, then the next time a compromise is made we move further still from our position, look at politics for an example of this. | | | | | Elizabeth Tinker you are so right... if we don't stand for some we will surely fall for anything... We have to be very careful about what we are willing to compromise. This is an awesome blog and worthy of sharing.. I will be passing it along. |
| | | | | Good post Elizabeth, so true that you have to believe in what you stand for. |
| | | | | We find that in our business give and take is a necessary part of the process. We don't feel we are compromising because the customer has to have a say or we can't satisfy them much less build something they can continue. |
