I just returned from a vacation to South Dakota. After driving a total of 2900 miles my wife and I were beat but had such a great time! I have two sons living in South Dakota and seldom get to see them so that was great, but my wife and I decided to sightsee throughout the State and doing so really made me appreciate what our forefathers went through in settling in this great land!
We visited Mt Rushmore and reflected not only on the presidents whose faces adorn this great mountain but to the patience and work that went into these carvings. For anyone to do such a feat would had to have had a great love for America and the freedoms we enjoy
The Badlands were simply awesome!Miles and miles of earth that looked as if God just simply decided to curse it with no beauty at all.
We visited a Presidential wax museum in Keystone with every President from Washington to Obama with stories of each.To think of some of the hardships, wars, and struggles some of our great leaders went through, many being killed for what they believed in,while pushing democracy and freedom across not only America but around the world. We also visited an 1880's town with everything from a doctors surgery room to a old jail to a one room schoolhouse.I couldn't help but imagine myself living during those times.Everything was simple back then with none of the modern technology we have today.Although it had to be hard living through the struggles, can you imagine what a joy it had to be to have such close family ties.
We also visited many of the Sioux Indian tributes and you can't help but appreciate the many struggles of our Native Americans, regardless of what tribe they come from.
We have come a long way in our two hundred and thirty six year history, but it seems some want to throw all that away and be enslaved once again to what we originally escaped from. Please let's not let that happen!
