I had an interesting experience with an on-line marketer this weekend. This man, a southerner who “retired himself when he was forty” seems to be quite an expert on extracting leads to build his on-line network marketing business. I had gotten on his mailing list and was planning to join him. (Not that I need another program to promote but he has a good cause: feeding hungry children). Anyway, This guy sent out what I think was a bulk email containing swear words used in an insulting manner targeted at me and the other recipients.
I replied that I didn’t think this was at all an appropriate communication to be sending. He said he did it for “shock value” to make sure the message was read. He also sent me a copy of a rap video called “Banned in the USA”, apparently suggesting I was challenging his right to “freedom of speech”. Well, fine but I can exercise my “freedom of choice” by not associating with this man and certainly not doing business with him.
I believe we must treat each other with respect and help each other succeed. I don’t believe yelling at someone or insulting them is ever a good way to get the best out of them. Treat them well and they will respect you as well, and then you can form a relationship where you can work together.
