When I was in high school and thinking about what I wanted to do in my professional life, it seemd like the entire world was in front of me. I thought about many things including construction, being an architect, teaching Art, etc. A few days after I graduated, I moved to another state and started out in my construction career.
Things went well and I was quickly moving up in the company, but I also began to think about the future. I knew I wanted a family, but didn’t want to depend on good weather or building “booms” to take care of them. I decided to go to college and study Art and become a high school teacher. I was blessed and started my pottery business while learning how to be the best teacher I could be!
While completing my degree, I was told of a statistic that the average person would switch careers more than 5 times in his/her lifetime. I remember thinking that will not happen to me and I will find a great teaching position! Well, I did find several great teaching jobs and was blessed to help and influence many kids, but due to “budget cuts” – I wasn’t hired as full-time.
You might be able to relate and to make matters worse – I had spent so many hours investing in my dream to teach that it felt like part of my heart and soul were in that building and those kids. When I had to resign my part-time positon, it felt like I left part of me there! Thankfully, I was again blessed and met several important people – one of which introduced me to my business – FuelDirect.
Last night, I was driving by my old school at about 10:30 and remembering all those late nights working to help make sure my students had the best experiences I could provide. I miss those good times and interactions, but this time – I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Because of that gift, I had many other doors open to me and I was again blessed and called to a bigger opportunity through my business. I have the ability to once again help many people and it seems that I am living a “bigger” purpose!
When I joined FuelDirect, I saw a tremendous financial opportunity, but what I didn’t know was how it would change my entire life. Since joining FuelDirect, I have read over 10 new books (I used to hate reading), lost over 55 lbs, and am working daily at becoming a better husband, father, and leader! My entire life has changed and prior to that happening – I was frustrated because that “dream” of being a full-time teacher didn’t come to fruition. All I can say now is that Everyday I am thankful for unanswered prayers and being open to the “other gifts and opportunities” that I learned in that situation!
