Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill - Chapter 1

In the Japanese tradition, a Dojo is a school or a practice hall.

In today's world a Dojo is usually considered as a place of training to learn martial arts, but the origin of the word means “seat of wisdom.”

Isn’t that what we are all about?  Discovering the Wisdom that will transform our lives is worthy of all our effort.

For some, the Mental Cleanse is a brand new experience.  It’s exhilarating to listen and learn all about the principles that are presented in this masterpiece by Napoleon Hill.  If you are new to this Dojo, you are just beginning to learn that Thoughts are Things.

For others, participating in the Mental Cleanse has become an important part of our week.  Some of us been through this book many times and have posted many lessons.  We enter this Dojo with a greater awareness that Thoughts are Things.

A Dojo is a place of practice.  Here at our Mental Cleanse Dojo, no one is expected to get it right all the time.  None of us are perfect, no matter how many lessons we’ve posted or how many times we speak up on the calls.  We are all Learners. For maximum benefit, we must surrender to our egos and be in a state of Beginner’s Mind.

I’ve been part of the Mentoring For Free Mental Cleanse since June 2010.  It took me weeks before I submitted a lesson and even more weeks before I spoke up on a call. I knew that here I was in the presence of people who could teach me how to “Think and Grow Rich.”  I laid aside all my preconceived ideas and my fancy job titles.

My entire life had been lived within limits. There was always a ceiling above me that I could not penetrate.  I believed the lie that I didn’t have enough…intelligence, education, experience, boldness, persistence, etc.

More importantly, I believed the even greater lie that I wasn’t enough.

By being faithful to the Mental Cleanse process, I have been trading in those limiting belief systems. Oh, how I wish that process could be faster.  So much of my life is lived in the fast lane, that I sometimes get frustrated that I’m not there yet!

But then I remember that here in this Dojo, that doesn’t matter.  Everyone is a Learner.  Everyone has value.  Everyone has something to contribute.

A martial arts Dojo equips you in karate, judo, or aikido.  This Dojo equips you for LIFE.  Every single thought that we think has the power to strengthen or to weaken.  It has the power to bring life or to bring death.

Here we are at Chapter 1—Thoughts are Things.  Do I come to this chapter with Beginner’s Mind or do I come thinking I know a lot because I’ve been through the book so many times?

I’m here to confess that the more I go through this book, the more I realize how little I know.  If I were to really grasp the reality of the words in this chapter, my life would be different. It all comes down to Results and I’m far from where I want to be.

So here I am…once again, surrendering to the Dojo.  I let go of whatever is holding me back and I put on Beginner’s Mind.

I’m ready to learn and take action.

Who’s with me?
