How To Stop Procrastinating In 3 Minutes Flat

There is a story about a man who was taking his wife out for dinner but couldn’t decide whether his black shoes or his brown shoes went best with his suit.

First he put on the brown pair, then the black ones, then back to the brown … he just couldn’t decide.

Realising they were in danger of missing their table reservation, his wife suggested a compromise.

And so the guy went to dinner wearing one black shoe and one brown one!

In the real world, of course we wouldn’t do that.  But a real procrastinator would be in serious danger of missing the dinner altogether!

Procrastination can cost more than a dinner, however.

The student who chooses computer games over study can miss out on a bright future.

The guy who can never decide when is the right time to tell the woman he’s been dating for more than a year that he loves her can lose her altogether.

(That actually happened to a friend of mine - twice).

Why do we procrastinate?

There are many reasons, but the bottom line is usually pretty much the same: We’re afraid of “getting it wrong.”

That may be based on past mistakes, or upon mistakes you’ve witnessed others make.

The decisions may be big or small.  To marry or to stay unattached?  To have pizza or Chinese for dinner?

The fear is the same, just different intensity.

“What if I do A and regret it and wish I’d done B?”

Just explore that for a moment.

What if you do?

In the case of the pizza or Chinese for dinner, well you can always order the other one next time.

But you really don’t want to be choosing to marry with the thought that you can always get a good divorce lawyer if you don’t like it, do you?

The reason we get into such tangles is because we think the answer is hidden somewhere in our jumble of thoughts.  You know, the messy ones going around and around in your head.

But that’s like looking for your lost keys under the street lamp even though you know you dropped them somewhere back in the shadows because the light’s better there!

It could be bright sunshine, but your keys are never going to show up because that’s not where you dropped them!

The true answer - whatever it is for you - will come when you STOP thinking!  When you learn to let go of thinking about something it comes because whilst you’re trying to get the situation under control, you’re operating under the delusion that you’re informed enough to be able to make the right choice.

But you’re not.

What you need is wisdom, not more information.

Wisdom comes through as a head, heart and gut sensation of knowing.

Your job, your one and only job, is to let it through.

And whilst you obscure it in a sandstorm of fuzzy, incomplete thinking, it can’t get through.  Or maybe a better way to put it, is that it’s there all the time, like the sun on a foggy day, but you just can’t see it.

Let the storm clouds settle and the answer will always be there.

If you don’t have a way to let those storm clouds settle, or you’d like a bit of help to speed the process, give my “5 Minute Impossible Problem Fixer” a try.

It’s free and you can download it from

Don’t think about it!  Just do it!
