I bet that we would all love to have even an extra $50 a week wouldn't we?
Remember that $50 a week means an extra $200 a month into your bank account, that is $2400 a year, enough for a nice vacation.
1. The first area to look at is how much you spend on drinks. If you buy coffee while you are at work the money mounts up, If you have one every day you are well over $10. Do not be tempted by the drinks cabinet when at the gas station either. Budget for these things in your weekly grocery shop and then take them from home each day. You could save $20 a week just from this.
2. Then we come to those lunches. It is so easy to nip out to the take-away for a lunchtime burger but it is an expensive way of eating. You are possibly throwing another $20 away like this. Again take it with you or, at least, buy from the places with coupons that you find in your local paper.
3. Now let's get on to that weekly grocery shop. Here you can be looking at increasing your health as well as your health. If you are tempted by the chocolates and snacks they always put near the checkout, then resist them. The stores often have offers on which are a two edged sword. If it is something that you really want then buy it but, if you are simply getting it because it is on offer, then don't. Quite often the store's own brand goods are made by the same company that makes their own branded goods, and they sell them at a lot lower price.
4. Have you noticed how gas prices have been going up so much? A journey of a mile uses proportionately a lot more gas than a journey of a hundred miles so cut out the small trips, walk instead. If you work too far from home to walk, see if you can find someone nearby who you can carpool with. Finally, do your shopping and errands on that journey rather than making a separate one.
5. Commit to depositing a certain percentage of your income into a savings account as soon as you get it and then do not withdraw it. Even if you deposit your loose change at the end of each week, it can be several dollars. With the remainder, just take the money you really need when you go out and you cannot spend more.
6. Look at your personal expenses such as a hair do or trip to the ball game. Can you manage with them every other week rather than every week?
You see these things are possible to do. Imagine how you will feel when you see your savings account growing. Tell yourself that you will have an extra $50 a week in your savings account and you will find a way to do it.
