As you have probably heard, Pinterest was noted as one of the fastest growing social networks in April 2012. It picked up popularity for corporate branding in 2012, though remained popular among moms and women that helped populate the market since Pinterest's launch in March 2010. I am an avid user of Pinterest and have had nothing but a favorable experience. You can connect with me at https://pinterest.com/motherbabychild/ - I do follow back, share, repin, like and comment accordingly.
What I have found is that the key to being successful at Pinterest is to utilize the site as it was intended for use. The following is the basic concept of use for those who are new to Pinterest.
1) Create Boards based on interests and attractive subjects. Add a description to your boards.
2) Upload or Link (a.k.a. "Pin") images and videos to the applicable interest boards. Add a description to your Pinterest Pins.
3) Share those Pins on Facebook, Twitter, etc. to generate traffic and board followers.
4) "Repin" / Share other people's Pins on Pinterest and throughout the Internet.
5) LIKE and comment on other people's Pins to support / share their interests, as well as for additional exposure, networking and support of your Pins.
6) Build your following / friends there by following others AND adding a Pinterest link, share buttons, etc. on your website / blog.
The key to retaining your Pinterest account and building your brand / marketing effort is to NOT SPAM on Pinterest. You can link all of your uploads or direct Pins to the website(s) of your choice, therefore it is not necessary to abuse the description area by overly promoting or adding too many links to that area - one seems to stick in most cases as long as it is not a spam message. FYI, Pinterest's terms states that they can convert those links to their own affiliate links at any time. In order to avoid their doing so, just Pin appropriately and to the site(s) you want and they will get network trafic, repins, likes and comments as your are building a rapport / following on the network.
As an online business owner, blogger or network marketer, there is sometimes a "fine line" as to how you can network on "SOCIAL" networks. In this case, it is best to add variety to your marketing mix, so that more people will follow and repin your content. For example, if I had a health / wellness business (which I do not, though see friends successfully Pinterest marketing their health and wellness businesses), I would blog about subjects that are helpful to my intended customers and sure to have a picture on each blog post, so that I could share it on Pinterest. I would then use Pinterest in the same way that I use Digg or Facebook pages ... Take the link to that blog post and pin the image to the applicable Pinterest Board w/ a text description of the health topic promoted. I would share on Facebook and Twitter as I am pinning it with a #health or relative hashtag connected. This works like a charm for business marketing. I have done the same with personal blogs!
Additionally, VIDEOS, QUOTE IMAGES and INFORGRAPHICS go viral on Pinterest. Mix the basic content up with these resources to increase your Pinterest following and repins.
I will write more on Pinterest, but I wanted to get a quick blog post launched for those IBOToolBox members that are not currently using Pinterest to gain more exposure at this network. You can see my IBOTOOLBOX linked to my 2nd board titled "Social Sites (Connect With Me)" - pinterest.com/motherbabychild/ - You can manage a board like this for your business / marketing sites and them created general interest boards to make your Pinterest more interesting for potential friendships and increased followings.
Best Wishes and Happy Pinning to all of my IBO friends :)
