When I think back and even look at where I am as far as my weight gain, I didn’t find that to be a issue with me as I was going through my “change of life.” However, I would see a slight increase and decrease in pounds about every 4 or 5 months. The amounts would vary. Sometimes 2-4 pounds gained or 2-4 pounds lost. I have always had a nice figure weighing in at 128-130 pounds. Looking real nice and neat in my attire for whatever the occasion was.
Now the medical experts explained it as menopause weight gain is very common while going through this transition. The facts prove that women who do gain weight during menopause is at an average of 12 to 15 pounds. With that kind of information for me to have gained that much weight would be devastating. I could not imagine myself that big since I was use to seeing myself looking good and real pretty. The pear shape look (if you will) would be gone and the new form of a apple shape would be taken on. Now when I would noticed a few pounds gained there would be some bloating with it. I found out that was a very common menopausal symptom.
With this not being a issue with me, unfortunately I know there are women who are coping with this symptom of menopause. There are a few things that I can suggest that you do. I know it can be easily said than done. Exercise is a form of having some control of your weight gain. It is wise to add some weight training to your exercise. I also recommend this book to help you focus on your regimen.
The name of the book is: Fight Fat After Forty by Pamela Peeke, MD
Your diet is important. Staying away from fried foods, fast foods, and balancing your meals with good wholesome fruits and vegetables. Deserts can be a weakness for you too but gain the control you need with a good choice.
My last thought and suggestion is if you were lacking some weight and got a chance to gain a little more; be happy with the change and be more prettier than you were. So don’t let your refrigerator magnets pull you into the kitchen if you have a fear of gaining weight!
