Wake Up 2 Wealth

Wake Up 2 Wealth's Daily View Of The World!

It's a well known fact that star performers, the elite at the very top of their chosen pursuit or profession, are more often than not the ones who have worked the hardest and smartest to get there. They are the ones who will do that bit more than others, put in longer hours, study more diligently, practice harder, spend more time on improving themselves and on working with colleagues, clients and prospects and who will take those calculated risks that the faint-hearted shun. They are willing to rough it and tough it, do anything at all in fact if there is even the most slight of chances of progressing, of making an impact, of getting a result. They accept that earning success is hard but they know that if it wasn't hard then everyone would be doing it! This success attitude of super achievers is often referred to as 'going the extra mile.'

POWER POINT - “If achieving success wasn't hard then everyone would be doing it! Super achievers go the 'extra mile'. ”

The sales manager of the investment company kept all the 'best leads' to himself. It was a well known fact among the sales force. So when 'a name', usually scribbled on a scrap of paper, appeared in the in-tray of any of his sales staff then it was most likely to be treated by them with scorn. The 'lead' was not considered by them likely to be of any value. So when I, a freelance agent, visited the company headquarters one Friday afternoon and found among the messages left for me just such a note with the hurried name and contact information on it, then I knew it had been passed down from the manager and then discarded by the salespeople as worthless – and passed to me!

But I called the number given anyway and on that very night found myself driving through darkness and torrential rain, the three hundred miles to meet the following morning with the man I had spoken to on the telephone. It never occurred to me not to make the journey. A testing six hours of negociation later I was retracing my three hundred mile route back to 'base' with Ten Thousand Pound sterling worth of commission safely signed up. That evening I celebrated with the finest steak and scallops and vintage champagne. Boy had I earned it!

On the Monday morning my first port of call was to the offices of the investment company. I went straight away to see the manager. When, with something of a triumphant flourish, I dropped my newly won business on to his desk he was speechless. It was one of those classic moments when to witness the look of dismay (and not a little irritation) on his face was almost more rewarding than the hefty commission and burgeoning reputation my week-end work had earned me. “How on earth did you do that?” he spluttered in disbelief. I moved to leave with a jaunty nonchalance borne of my success and chirped as I slid out the door, “Easy – I went the extra mile!” and then, popping my head back in, added, “Six hundred in fact!” ”

You see - where the manager had passed off the 'lead' as worthless and others had dismissed it as being of no value, where most packed up for the week-end and went home to relax and play and would sneer at the perceived idiocy of wasting time and energy on a six hundred mile round trip with little prospect of a profitable outcome, where people saw only failure - I saw ... an opportunity! And I went for it.

I accepted that earning success would be hard but I understood that if it wasn't hard then everyone would be doing it! So I knew that to prosper I needed to give more of my time and of myself and to do more than others were prepared to do. And that is why I got in to my car and drove through the night to pursue an apparent lost cause.

And that very simply is what it takes to succeed. Are you prepared to go the extra mile?

Perseverance pays. Take my word for it. I live and 'work' in the sunny south of Portugal. Need I say more? This is my 'office'!The Extra Mile
