Why Is The Whole World Against Me?

Why Is The Whole World Against Me” is the 42nd in my 'Wealth' series of original copyright Press Releases sent from my happy home in the sunny south of Portugal.

WHY IS THE WHOLE WORLD AGAINST ME?

All too common amongst some people in modern day society is the mind-set that control of their lives and events in it lie with 'someone else' - “the whole world is against me” mentality - rather than accepting that they alone are responsible. These people establish no control over their own destinies and constantly feel sorry for themselves. In this state they often shun the help and advice of well-intentioned associates thereby alienating them and furthering in reality their own distorted perception of being victimised!

Being a 'victim' is psychologicaly an all too easy easy opt out. It allows the practitioner to :

  • Always feel in the right

  • Never have to make decisions or take action

  • Often be the centre of attention from those concerned about them

  • Never have to risk failure or rejection

  • Always avoid the burden of responsibility

So, given that there appears to be some compelling benefits to be gained from feeling that “the whole world is against me”, why should people in general reject that mind-set and why are super achievers and the ultra successful in particular, inherently and vehemently opposed to it? The answer is simple. Feeling sorry for ones-self is a downward spiral to oblivion whereas accepting responsibility for all ones thoughts and deeds is a sure fire route to success.

POWER POINT - “When you take full control of your situation and assume full responsibility for all of your thoughts and actions, success becomes a virtual certainty.”

Put another way, self-pity is a negative and therefore wasteful exercise. Assuming responsibility is, on the other hand, positive and energizing. It :

  • Frees up all the time previously wasted on wallowing in self-pity

  • Frees one from the hurt and negativity of self-sorrow

  • Allows the repair of damaged relationships

  • Reignites ambition and a desire to achieve

  • Reduces need for external validation

  • Empowers self-confidence

  • Builds life stability

The old addage that 'where losers see difficulty, winners see only opportunity' applies very much when comparing the mentalities of the “why is the whole world against me?” brigade with those of super achievers. When faced with a demanding situation the super achiever will ask three questions of himself. First -

Who is worse off than me?”

By posing this question to himself he puts the situation in perspective and thus reduces pressure on himself, he makes it easier.

Then he asks -

What opportunity does this present?”

And to find the answer to that question there is a third crucial question he will ask. It is this -

How can I give value to others right now?”

You see, the way that you think and act towards others is fundamental to your perception of your own self-worth and those who indulge in the “why is the whole world against me” philosophy are inherently selfish and thinking only of themselves. The ultra successful by comparison focus more so on helping others. This they know will raise their own self esteem and make themselves, as well as their beneficiaries, feel good and will, ultimately, prove profitable. So they look for the opportunity in all situations no matter how dire and find it in the way that they can assist others to overcome difficulty.

POWER POINT - “Seek opportunity in ways to assist others to overcome adversity.”

Oh! and one last point – Successful achievers are not only good to others, they are good to themselves too. So be nice to yourself. Start by asking yourself, “Who and what in my life should I be grateful for today?” and then go share your good fortunes with as many people as possible. You'll feel like a million dollars!
