Tom's Autumn Rambles with Joseph Tom Riach

A MERC IN THE HAND ...

Duncan's motor car of choice was a Mercedes … and he always owned two! And at every moment in time either of the near identical vehicles was available for sale. But not at any price. He sold one only when he received the premium price for it which he wanted. So he was never in a hurry to sell, he sold at his leisure and for top dollar.

Only then and with cash in hand, would he set about sourcing a replacement. But, as with his selling, he was in no rush. He'd search for just the right car at just the right price. And the right price was bottom dollar, less in fact. It had to be a car from a seller desperate for cash, so desperate they'd let it go for pea-nuts. So Duncan waited. As with the sale he knew that sooner or later the right opportunity would present itself. Of course it always did.

Duncan was not only patient, he was smart. He was capitalising on two things :

Using a normally wasting asset (even Mercs lose value) in order to make profit – and he was profiting from a commodity, a necessary 'tool' which he would have in his life for business use anyway

and

The tendancy of most sellers and buyers to act in haste and based on emotion, the 'must-have-it-now' and the 'act-only-in-crisis' syndromes prevalent in much of modern society.

These two last-mentioned traits go a long way to explaining why the majority of ordinary people never get to be wealthy. They are squanderers.

Duncan, on the other hand, was a predatory opportunist. He had cleverly chosen to deal in an item both necessary and of quality, one which gave him pleasure in ownership but for which he knew there was always a ready market. So his little sideline provided necessary and comfortable transport, amused and entertained him, kept him sharp and provided a dependable source of income additional to his main stream activities.

Successful entrepreneurs like Duncan do not become so by accident. They employ wit and wiles beyond the scope of most others. But to emulate them you need only do likewise. So are you ready? Do you have a Merc in the hand mentality?

ABOUT JOSEPH TOM RIACH

It took me some years to establish myself in business but I believe that in life only the most resolute of tryers will prevail and after several years of a bank account in a permanent state of cardiac arrest my perseverance began to pay!

I became a successful Business Consultant, Investment Adviser and award-winning Salesperson and Marketing Professional and I coined the term 'Creative Solutions' to describe my work in devising and implementing innovative approaches to situations in business, commerce and industry (some call it touble-shooting). From my successes I grew my own group of small companies.

By later years I had realised that sheer sweat and toil did not represent the smartest or swiftest routes to wealth. Entrepreneurs, I observed, had always existed able to create fortunes from little apparent effort and I became increasingly fascinated by this phenomenon. I set out to emulate this approach and such was my success that I could 'retire' at an early age to the tranquility and calm of South West France. I later moved on to Southern Portugal.

CONTACT ME – I'll be thrilled to hear from you!

The life of which you dream is HERE within your grasp!
