Random Acts Of Mindless Optimism

Random Acts Of Mindless Optimism”   is the 13th in my 2018 series of Tom's Summer Shorts original copyright press releases sent from my happy home in the sunny south of Portugal

While I cannot over emphasise the importance of proper planning and preparation as essential cornerstones of great achievements, I must confess that a sizeable chunk of my own entrepreneurial success has, over the years, been down to random acts of mindless optimism.

And I'd go as far as to venture that these random acts of mindless optimism (often known as taking a flyer or diving in the deep end) play a major part in the success stories of most entrepreneurs, the tendency to act this way being a natural element in the entrepreneurial DNA.

As Rabbie Burns, Scotland's national bard, famously wrote - “The best laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft agley” - and, bearing this in mind, is planning, be it thorough or shoddy, desirable in all circumstances? After all, no matter how meticulously a project is planned, accidents or misfortune can still befall it. And, by the same token but in reverse, sometimes, just sometimes, acting quickly on impulse or gut feeling can pay handsome dividends.

I have in the past indulged in too many such off the cuff adventures as is possible to list here, but suffice to say that a remarkable number of them involved totally chance encounters with complete strangers in far flung hostelries!

But in none of the instances I'm refering to was I looking for the specific opportunity which presented itself, had I met the individual(s) previously, had I the slightest inkling about the businesses in question or how to operate it and therefore never had any plan or strategy in place regarding it. In all cases I acted impulsively and without rational forethought, my on the spot commitments comprising much wishful thinking and being nothing more than random acts of mindless optimism.

But the fact that many such rolls of the dice had successful outcomes act as an important reminder that, just as misfortune can befall a well planned project, good fortune can embrace a none planned one!

I am Tom Riach. I live and write in the sunny south of Portugal.

It took me some years to establish myself in business but I believe that in life only the most resolute of tryers will prevail and after several years of a bank account in a permanent state of cardiac arrest my perseverance began to pay!

I became a successful Business Consultant, Investment Adviser and award-winning Salesperson and Marketing Professional and I coined the term 'Creative Solutions' to describe my work in devising and implementing innovative approaches to situations in business, commerce and industry (some call it trouble-shooting). From my successes I grew my own group of small companies.

Today I host my 'Wake Up Leisure and Learning Breaks', personal mentoring and business guidance, in the tranquility and calm of the sunny south of Portugal and I am the author of several best-selling books on the subject of successful living.

CONTACT ME - I'll be thrilled to hear from you!

The life of which you dream is HERE within your grasp!
