What My Brother Taught Me Brother, family, love, faith

As I mentioned in a former blog, I grew up in the shadow of my older brother. Everyone (including me) thought he was handsome, strong, playful, into every sport, he was very protective of me, and an inspiration to everyone he met. As the years went by we grew apart for several reasons - he lived in the east & I lived in the west part of the country. Through emails and phone conversations, he would always be there to help me - I loved to hear from him and he taught me alot about computers. Just before Thanksgiving last year, I was devastated to hear that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer which had moved to 4 lymph nodes and the trachea. The doctors started radiation and chemotherapy treatments which scared him and the whole family. Faithfully every week he sent us reports of the treatments and how encouraged the doctors were. The treatments were hard on him, he became so weak - was almost bed ridden. To think of him like this was more than I could fathom. To write the emails he had to lift his left arm up with the right hand. On May 2, the day after a strong chemo treatment, he became quite ill and was rushed to the hospital. My dear brother and teacher went to live with the Lord.... Through all of his problems, when he wrote the emails, he was upbeat and expressed his faith in the Lord. He encouraged us to take the time to thank God for his love and caring ways. Take the time to review his very creations, the Spring, the flowers, the green grass, the sunrise, the sunset..... the Rocky mountains, the Smokey mountains, the shores of beaches. I believe this was the best lesson he ever taught me....
