If you start every conversation as a social call you can often accomplish more than making a sales call. People want to know what interests you and what makes you human.
The idea of tell not sell comes into play in a big way with this type of call. As Internet marketers we each have different experiences and companies we work with that we use for list building, gaining credits for mailings and even products and services.
A social call is a way of selling yourself. This works especially well if you truly listen to what the person on the other end of the phone is saying. Given a few minutes you can learn what their needs are and if you know your products or services and can explain them once you find the need, then you can give them a solution.
Listening is an art, the ones who learn to do it always do better than those who don’t. Remember a social call is a two way street. Chances are you will be listening to what the other person is selling also. Keep an open mind, you never know what you’ can learn. If you have no need for their product, guide the conversation to areas where your interests are.
The best social calls are where both people can walk away with something that will help each. It might not be a core product but chances are both parties have something useful to the other. If you treat people how you want to be treated social calls will be something to look forward to.
