Building a brand; is your traffic converting

Why are you building a brand? Some people believe the more traffic they receive the more conversions they are going to make. Many times this is wrong thinking. All the traffic in the world doesn’t do you any good if a webpage isn’t converting.

Where does design come in?

Pages are designed to do a job. Their job is to fulfill a potential customer’s needs. It is not about “you” the brand/website owner, never has been. If there is no design, there is no business. Design is either going to fulfill its function or it is not. If it doesn’t it is bad design.

What is all this talk about design?

Everything you do in preparation to open a business is design. Every picture, graphic, and word on your website is part of your design. Each has a function which is to convince a visitor to become a customer.

Social media is design

Its function is to give you the ability to talk to customers and potential customers. It is also a place to offer those who follow you bargains others are not. This is where you will find out how to make changes your customers want. It will also contain those who are fiercely loyal to your company.

The personal touch

You will find as you are moving your business forward there are people who become loyal to you personally. Building personal relationships is important for every business. Part of success relies on giving.

Advertising and blogging

These are designed to bring traffic. Each requires the same amount of thought it takes in creating webpages. They have a function which they have to fulfill or they are worthless. Each should contain a call to action although it doesn’t have to be “in a potential customers face.” As much as possible you want it to be compelling.


One of the websites we consulted for has a picture of a cute dog with the words “click me” above it. We actually felt it would have been better if the words were integrated into the picture. Sometimes customers listen other times they don’t. What would be best for his customers? This we felt should have been taken to social media. You would want to know what they felt would increase the conversion rate.


It doesn’t matter how good you think you are there are going to be times when another more experienced mind is necessary. It takes years to learn to optimize a website. We are not talking SEO here although that takes time also.

As you can see design is inevitable. Whether it is good or bad depends on whether it performs the function it was built for. Can you afford bad design? Is this what separates those who are earning from those who are not?

What it comes down to

Each page of a website, each blog you write, and every form of advertising you do is for a purpose. It is to convince a visitor to follow your prescribed action. Each in some way is tied to creating traffic and converting this traffic into customers.
