Building your brand; Market research, customer journey map

Lisech eMarketing logo Beatrice Nebraska

What is a customer journey map? Why is it important in market research for your business? How does it affect how perspective buyers perceive your brand?

As a business owner these questions are important to you. They make the difference in how customers feel about you and your product. To give a customer what they want or need, you need to understand how they feel. You also want to know how they feel as they are going through (your offer) their buying process.

Funnel

You need to realize every business has a funnel. What this basically means is something moves potential customers, from one point in the search to buy, to another, then to the fulfillment of their quest.

If your business is sales based and functions solely on how much profit you can make, if your not willing to discover the actual needs of your customers, STOP READING NOW, nothing from this point on will help you.

Customer based

Your goal as a business owner in reality is to fill a need or want a potential customer has. For your map to work properly you need 1 to 1 customer feedback.

It is important to understand

  • How they found you.
  • How the journey worked for them
  • What you can do to improve the process

This is so you can know what works, and make improvements.

Your map

For a customer journey map to be truly useful, it has to be approached from a foundation of research. It must be grounded in real, verifiable customer data.

Touch points

A touch point is any place a person can come in contact with your brand. You have to understand where and what those points are, and how effectively they function. In layman's terms you are trying to find out how well your funnel is working.

Goal

For your map to work touch points are important. You need to know more though, it has to show the relationship in it's entirety. It is important to understand where customers are on the journey. If you know they are on the way to the desired outcome, it is following the function for which it was created. The end result will be a better conversion rate, and customer retention.
